Villagers restore road link

PASIGHAT, Oct 11: Incessant rain in the Himalayan foothills over the last few days had changed the course of the rivers in downstream at Mebo proving to be the 'worst' on record. The Pasighat-Mebo-Dhola road found damaged at several points causing untold miseries to the villagers in particular and passengers as whole.

One of the prominent leaders Todol Pertin (Block President), T Yirang (ZPM), Martin Ratan, Lottek Pertin, PRI members and villagers of Kiyit and Ngopok conducted a social service yesterday to restore the approach road of the Kiyit bridge. The unexpected change of course of Kadang river washed away the approach road of the bridge and disrupted road communication between Mebo and Kiyit during the recent flood. The day-long efforts of the villagers temporarily restored the road communication through for vehicular movement .

Two JCBs, three dumpers and three trippers were pressed into the services which were voluntarily provided by the JKM Company, Sanjay Agarwal, Dilip Boro, Bising Tayeng, Rekar Doye and Bomken Tayeng. The local leaders and villagers while extending their gratitude to them for brotherly attitude also conveyed their thanks to the ADC (Mebo) O Dai and EE (PWD) Oni Jamoh for their active participation and supervision. Later the ADC Dai and EE Jamoh also visited the Ngopok bridge and took stock of the flood situation. DIPRO

 

 

Expedition team scales Mount Gorichen

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: The mount Gorichen expedition team has successfully scaled the breathtaking mountain on Oct 9 at around 7 am. The 15-member team which comprises of 4 Sherpas had left summit camp on 2.30 am and by 7 am they reached peak of Mt Gorichen.

Informing over phone from Tawang, K N Damo field advisor cum LO of the team stated that the entire expedition team members are sound and safe.

“The first party of expedition comprising two members has reached Mago post. Upon reaching at Mago through army and ITBP they contacted us and informed about successful scaling. We expect the remaining team to reach Mago on 14th, said Damo.  Further he added, “By 17th we expect all team members to reach Jang village. On 18th deputy commissioner Tawang along with secretary tourism and Indian army is going to welcome them. Special programmes are being lined to welcome team which scaled one of the toughest mountains of world.”

 

 

Transfer & posting

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: The State Government has effected transfer and posting of some IAS and APCS officers in the interest of public services.

According to an order from the Department of Personnel, Manoj Kumar Sahoo, has been posted as Secretary (Civil Aviation) and Special Secretary (PWD & Vigilance).  An order from the Department of Personnel, Dated October 9, 2012 stated that Shri Manoj Kumar Sahoo, IAS, is posted as Secretary (Civil Aviation) and Special Secretary (PWD & Vigilance), while Shiv Kumar has been posted as Deputy Commissioner of Lower Dibang Valley in place of Garima Gupta, Gupta has been asked to report to the Chief Secretary for further order.

West Kameng deputy commissioner Rinchin Tashi, who has been posted as Joint Secretary (Education), would be replaced by Abishek Dev.

Consequent upon the transfer and posting, Shri B.R. Babu, IAS is relieved from the charges of Secretary (Civil Aviation) and Special Secretary (Vigilance) and retained as the Secretary (RD), the order further stated. DIPR

 

 

Eviction drive in Rajbhawan area

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: The Capital Complex district administration today carried out an eviction drive and removed unauthorized encroachment in Raj Bhawan land adjacent to Rajbhawan badminton court.  The eviction was carried out in presence of Capital DC Sanjay Goel, ADM-cum CEO Talo Potom and other officers as the  encroachers failed to respond to the  eviction notice issued earlier.

Meanwhile, the capital district administration once again appealed to the encroachers to vacate the illegal encroachment on Rajbhavan land in particular and any other government land in general.

 

 

Sena calls on governor,  briefs on master plan

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Setong Sena has called on the Governor General (Retd) J.J. Singh at Raj Bhavan, here today.

Sena presented a draft copy of the master plan for integrated approach in Agriculture and allied sectors, which has been prepared by high level State committee. The minister who undertook tour to Sikkim to study the Sikkim model of State Institute of capacity building to prepare the draft, briefed the Governor on the master plan.

Sena, who also headed a State delegation to Indo Myanmar Business conclave held in Myanmar from 26th to 31st August 2012 presented a report on the conclave.

The Governor commended the effort of the State committee on Agriculture and allied section and expressed his hope that the plan will be implemented at the earliest.

The Governor, who have been advocating for revival of border trade to ensure socio-economic development in the border areas lauded the minister and his team for attending international event with special focus on border trade. He advised the minister to take some more concert steps for early revival of age-old traditional trade routes, especially Stilwell Road. Secretary to Governor Ankur Garg was present in the meeting. Nampong-Jairampur to get  ADC office building

JAIRAMPUR, Oct 11: Nabum Tuki after assuming office as Chief Minister ten months ago is scheduled to pay his second official visit to Nampong-Jairampur area of Changlang district on Oct 18. He would be accompanied by PWD, Finance & Planning Minister Chowna Mein and other officials.

The much talked about and first ever CM’s Livelihood Mission will be officially inaugurated at Nampong by him on landing.  Local MLA and Minister Setong Sena confirmed the schedule over phone this afternoon.

The effective concept of livelihood mission intelligently borrowed from Sikkim aims to rejuvenate school dropouts of the state by bringing them to a common platform where 6-months vocational and skill development training will be imparted to equip them for self employment and other jobs. The pioneer project is most likely to attract dropouts in a big way as time has established the fact that degrees matter least than short term training courses.

From Nampong, the CM’s entourage will move to Jairampur by road where he will inaugurate the newly built hi-fi double story office building of Additional Deputy Commissioner at Tirit Nagar. Finance Minister Chowna Mein will inaugurate Tea Factory while local MLA and Minister Setong Sena will inaugurate the tourist lodge.

After the inaugural spree, the CM will address a meeting at Jairampur podium during which a public 7- point memorandum demanding creation of a veterinary college at Jairampur, a wildlife division at Rima Putok circle, a Water Resource Department sub-division at Tirit Nagar, posting of Circle Officer at Rima-Putok circle, opening of border trade, construction of a tourist lodge at Nampong and construction of the much awaited circuit house at Jairampur is likely to be submitted. Dr. Begi, Swami on visit to USA, Canada & Guatemala

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Dr. Joram Begi, Director of Higher  and Technical Education and Chairman of RIWATCH has been invited to USA by International Center for Cultural Studies (ICCS) US for a month long period starting from 12 October.  Accompanied by Vijay Swami, a Fulbright Fellow and Executive Director RIWATCH, Begi is expected to speak at various planned academic and research forums during his tour.  They will be visiting various academic institutes in Washington DC, New York, Boston, Tampa Florida, Los Angeles, San Francisco, California, Seattle etc. in USA.

The ICCS has also scheduled his (Begi’s) meetings with university authorities for building collaborations and networking with different higher and technical institutions in USA for the benefit of Arunachalee students who wish to pursue higher education abroad. It is to be noted that in February 2012, as the Chairman RIWATCH, Bega was catalyst in signing MoU for academic collaboration and study exchange programme with University of South Florida, Tampa, US.

In his extensive tour, Dr. Begi will also visit Guatemala and interact with elders of the ethnic communities there.

The Mayan people have been identifying their unique cultural similarities with the people of North East India since ages. Coinciding their visit, the elders of Mayans have decided to organize a one day seminar on “Cultural traditions of Mayans, Continuity and Similarities” in Guatemala City. Dr. Begi and  Swami will be presenting their papers in the seminar. They will also visit Tikal one of the largest archeological sites and urban centers of the pre-Colombian Maya civilization located in Peten Basin, what is now known as northern Guatemala. No doubt, it is the first time that any Arunachalee is interacting with elders of one of the world’s oldest civilization who still holding on to their roots.

ICCS has also plan to organize their meetings in Vancouver and Calgary in Canada, with Indian origin people. Having their first visit in 2008 quite successful in establishing RIWATCH and building concrete ties for student exchange programme, this is the second time the ICCS US has invited Dr. Begi and Vijay Swami with full sponsorship, the RIWATCH release said.

 

 

Inter-School Meet concludes

SEPPA, Oct 11: A two-day inter-school meet organized by government residential school Nere, under Pijirang circle of East Kameng concluded on Wednesday with a colourful note.  The meet was held with an objective to create competitive spirit among the students of the area in various disciplines. It also aimed to create a platform for the students of the area to expose their talents and exchange ideas. Various competitive events including sports, cultural and literary activities were organized during the two days meet.

Attending the meet Circle Officer Pijirang Khoda Lasa called upon the students to keep up competitive temperament to achieve goal in life. Lasa also lauded the teaching faculty for conducting  the  meet and creating platform for students of different schools to interact and showcase their talents.  He also appealed the teaching community of the schools to maintain such extra-co-curricular activity in the school, beside their prime duty in nation building.

In a close contest boys football match played between government middle school Seba and government residential school Nere, former thrashed the host to lift the inter-school meet running football trophy 2012. In the girls football match Nere girls trounced over Seba. Radak Kino of class VIII of Nere Residential School was  declared as the best performing student of the meet.

 

 

Flood causes extensive damage at Kora circle

RUKSIN, Oct 11: The recent flash flood triggered by torrential rain left trail of devastation in Kora circle under Nari Sub-division in East Siang. The flash flood damaged the NEC road and RCC bridges along Kora to Telam and Kora to Sipu, causing total disruption in road communication since October 4 last. The flood also washed away livestock at Lipin, Kora and Mane villages besides damaging several acres of standing crops in the circle.

The Upper Ramle Banggo ZPM Yai Dabi informed that flood water damaged road at Mane and Lipin portion of Kora-Telam road and snapped road communication. Similarly, surface communication is disrupted along Sido and Tene areas.

According to report, the latest wave of flood washed away large number of domestic animals, including Mithuns at Lipin of village. Flood also damaged head works, pillar-wires and sediment tanks of drinking water projects at Lipin and submerged football ground at Mane village.

The ZPM also informed she has reported the authority concerned about the properties lost and damaged in the flood and demanded early restoration of the road communication and compensate the affected farmers after proper assessment of loss and damages.

The ZPM visited the affected area along with public leader Dosen Ringu, Block Congress leader Rari Riba and other government officials.

 

 

APWWS celebrates foundation day

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: The Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society celebrated its 33rd Foundation Day stressing to impart legal awareness to women on their rights at Mahila Imdad Bhawan, Naharlagun.

While highlighting the background of the Society, APWWS president Gumri Ringu recalled the selfless services rendered by the founder members and senior activists of the Society and those present during the meeting were felicitated to recognize their valuable service.

Vice chairman Radhilu Chai Techi spoke on many women friendly laws which have been implemented for the welfare of women and children.

Assistant Jailer C.T Lombi gave an overview on root cause of crime and types of crime against women and children while Nabam Sekap brie on general health and hygiene.

Most of the senior members of the Society, including DC Mihu Malo, Yagi Doni, Yade Riba, Tadar Yadir, Yapi Kulo, Taro Modi ZPM spoke about their association and experience with APWWS. The annual report of the society was presented by Secretary General Samnem Ngemu Lego.

The meeting was attended by hundreds of women from all walks of life.

AALO:  Inculcating idealism among the women for their emancipation and checking growing adolescent drug abuse came to fore for discussions on the raising day celebration of APWWS at Gumin Kiin yesterday.

Attending the celebration, West Siang Deputy Commissioner, Marnya Ete said that women are held in high esteem in our society right from the ancient time and development of society cannot be thought without proper development of women.

“Our society is witnessing a bad transition period in the past couple of years and women have to play a pivotal role in curbing the menace of drug abuse, trafficking, indiscipline in many places since administration alone cannot tackle multiple natures of bad elements in the society.

Parental care, formation of committee sector wise, disciplinary committees in the schools and role of women wings always come handy in tackling the menaces, he said.

Appreciating the role of women and  assuring to stand by  their cause, the DC assured to look into their demands like land allotment for their office building, renovation of Girls Hostel, car parking in the township, toilets at Sumo Counters, seizure of illegal alcohol vendors, illegal sale of drugs, night patrolling etc.

Former minister Doi Ado appreciated the role of women in eradicating many of social evils that plague the society. He appealed the women activists to come forward for more social causes saying that all social evils must be nipped in the bud.

Jumken Ete stressed on self regulatory measures and idealism among the womenfolk to guide the younger generation.

Dr Tsering Wangmo Kato as a Resource Person dwelt at length on ill effects of drugs and tobacco.

Host of women speakers pointed out the problems and suggested ways and means to contain the growing problems arising out of invasion of modernity.

The President and Secretary APWWS Aalo Kargam Ete and Ige jinni dwelt at length on the aim and objectives and action initiated by the women wing of West Siang for the past many years.

Dwelling on legal aspects, Advocate Redo Kamki assured to cooperate with women in pleading the cases relating to them.

As a good gesture, the participating Ponu parties not only presented attractive songs and dances but also contributed Rs. 300 to Rs.1000 each to the fund of APWWS, Aalo branch as a source of encouragement to continue their crusade against the forces that are detrimental for existence of a congenial society. Ration crisis hits Dibang Valley

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Flood hit Dibang Valley district is facing acute shortage of essential commodities and life saving medicines, reports DIPRO. “The entire Dibang Valley District is facing acute shortage of essential commodities, life saving drugs due to disruption in surface communication,

Upper Siang deputy commissioner informed. He appealed to the state government to take up the matter with Indian Air Force for air dropping of those items before the situation goes from bad to worse. Only one sortie could be materialized for entire district during last 10 days, which is not sufficient, he said.

Meanwhile, the restoration works of Anini-Roing roads was going on war footing. The DC, who is personally monitoring the restoration works, informed that blockade between Etalin and Aprunli was cleared yesterday thus making the road from Anini to Endolin through. However, the huge landslide in between 78km and Arozoo may take around a month to clear subject to weather condition, equipments like blasting material diesel etc.

The DC has requested officers of 62 RCC to put all out effort to restore road from Hunli to Arozoo at the earliest possible time. The Etalin –Maliney road remained blocked for the last 4 months.

The DC instructed the Circle Officer of Etalin to repair the Echi FSB to cater the transshipment of essential commodities from Roing to Anini till blockade at Endulin is cleared. DIPRO

 

 

DLVMC meeting on RD Progs

Seppa, Oct 11: Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman of East Kameng District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee (DLVMC) Tope Bam asked the executing agencies of various schemes and projects under Rural Development to execute the works in conformity with the guidelines without variation or alteration, and if there is any doubt or confusion, it should be clarified from the nodal deptt. DRDA.

Chairing a meeting of the DLVMC in his office chamber here on October 9, the deputy commissioner gave emphasis on how the undertaken projects could be successfully implemented by utilizing the fund with flexibility without comprising the quality and standard in all respect.

M. Riba, AE RWD presented the status of PMGSY Road works under East Kameng by RWD with physical and financial achievement. He informed that out the total 25 roads sanctioned, 15 have been completed, 9 were in progress with 68% physical achievement and 65% financial involvement.  One road is under process of agreement and 17 roads have been proposed under Ph-X ,  he added.

Er. Niama Kipa, EE PHED, while highlighting the physical and financial achievements under total sanitation campaign (TSC) which is rechristened Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA), said that  the programme would be taken up on cluster basis for ‘visible’ development. He appealed one and all to co-operate with the surveyors of PHED in furnishing correct information during the Base line Survey.

Kego Jillen, PD DRDA briefed the meet about fund placement under RD department.

Zilla Parishar Chairperson Cum Chairman DRDA Sepi Bagang urged the executing agencies to compile the reports in booklet form and circulate it in advance before conduct of the meeting to all the members in order to examine the works done. He said that executing agencies should not feel harassed, if there is any complaint against their works, rather they should try to rectify the faults.

Farmers-scientists interaction prog

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: An Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATNA) sponsored Farmer-Scientist Interaction programme was conducted at Ligu village, Daporijo by Kishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Upper Subansiri on October 9.

Subject matter specialists in animal husbandry and veterinary delivered a lecture on importance of deworming and vaccination in livestock and poultry. He also distributed calendar on different vaccination schedule for livestock and poultry.

The SMS in Agriculture discussed on various aspects of vermicomposting, its methods of preparation, harvesting and advantages of vermicomposting. The farmers were interested to know how to recycle the waste material which enhances the plant production and reduces environmental pollution.

The SMS in Home Science delivered lecture on introduction of zero energy cool chamber (ZECC), which is an on-farm low cost storage structure to store harvested fruits and vegetables to increase their shelf life.

The programme ended with a brief lecture on composite fish culture by Programme Assistant (Fisheries) Dipjyoti Bora, He suggested the fish farmers to adopt scientific methods for higher production.

Later, the farmers were distributed leaflets on the various topics discussed by the specialists.

Farmers from nearby Hankar and Niji villages attended the programme.

President and general secretaries of the market welfare associations of capital complex, ANSU, ANYA, Banderdewa Circle Intellectual Forum, All Arunachal Pradesh Unemployed Youth Organization, All Arunachal Pradesh Transport Federation, students' unions of capital complex, East Kameng, Kurung Kumey, Lower Subansiri, Upper Subansiri, Papum Pare and others would attend the meeting. The conglomeration of this organisation would discuss on law and order situation and bandh culture in capital complex which has crippled normal life and has become a perpetual cause of grave concern for all and sundry.

 

Miscreants ransack gas agency

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Miscreants today ransacked Donyi Polo Gas agency and caused extensive damage to the properties. Even some of the employees received serious injury during attack. An FIR has been lodged in this regard at Itanagar police station.

Meanwhile, the proprietor of Donyi Polo Gas agency has decided to shut the office on 12th to protest the repeated attacks. They have urged valuable customers to bear with them.

 

NERIST convocation

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Union Minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal would attend the third convocation ceremony of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science & Technology (NERIST), a premiere technical institute in the State.

The Convocation is being held for two passed out batches as no Convocation was held in 2011, informed Prof. Dipankar Pal, Director of the Institute. He further informed that 39 students would receive Gold Medals in person and another 12 in absentia. The Institute would also give away Ph.D., M.Tech., B.Tech. and other certificates to successful candidates.

Arunachal Pradesh Governor General (Retd) JJ Singh (Retd.) expressed happiness at the way the Institute is progressing and advised the Director to further stress upon maintaining discipline and orderliness in the Institute. The Governor, who also is president of the Society of NERIST would preside over the function.  

MP Bezbaruah, Chairman, Board of Management, would also attend the ceremony.

 

Upper Siang bandh on Oct 15

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Eastern Adi Students’ Union and the Mariyang Area Students’ Union have jointly called 12-hr Upper Siang Bandh on October 15 from 5 am as part of their first of democratic movement in protest against non-fulfillment of their various demands.

Both the unions, in a joint meeting last month demanded the state government for immediate cancellation /retention of transfer order issued against few eachers and Marinag ADEO, immediate posting of sufficient teachers in various schools in Upper Siang district, immediate restoration of power supply and road Raneghat -Yingkiong road via Mariyang.

Essential services, such as ambulance, water supply, pharmacy, milk-van, medical, police and magistrate on duty have been exempted from the purview of the bandh.

 

Meeting on electoral roll revision

YINGKIONG, Oct 11:   Panchayat Electoral Revision meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Liyon Borang today.

The Deputy Commissioner asked all the ERO and AEROs to conduct electoral hearing at their respective polling booth so that every electorate can attend the hearing. He also stated that voters’ photo identity was not mandatory for Panchayat electorates of panchayat bodies.

Meeting on selection of best Gram Sabha, best Anchal Samity segment and Zilla Parishad was also held and selection proceeding was completed for onwards submission to the state government.

3  houses gutted in Monigong

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Three dwelling houses of Pape Hemi, Tatuk Hemi and Tasing Hemi at PHED Colony, Monigong under Mechukha Sub-Division have been reportedly reduced to ashes in a major fire incident on October 9 last. The house owners lost house-hold materials besides valuable local traditional ornaments worth lakhs of rupees  in the fire mishap.

Meanwhile, expressing grave concern over the mishap, the All Libo Ramo Bokar Welfare Society (ALRBWS), Capital Complex in a letter addressed to the West Siang District Deputy Commissioner has appealed him to provide relief to the fire victims immediately.

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Tagin Welfare Society (TWS) Itanagar today claimed that it has not seen the report of one-man enquiry committee yet, which, it said, was submitted to authority on Oct 5 Oct last. The committee was constituted by the chief minister in September last to unearth the truth behind the allegations of unfair means allegedly adopted during APPBn/IRBN personnel recruitment process in Daporijo, Upper Subansiri.  Society also said that the report is yet to be made public and it is unknown to people of the society. Further, it reiterated its demand for fresh interview of APPBn/IRBN personnel in the district.

 

‘Blood has no substitute’

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Arunachal Pradesh Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) Deputy Director (Blood Safety) exhorted all the Blood Bank in-charges, both Govt and private, to make all the defunct Blood Banks functional by organizing voluntary blood donation camp periodically to meet the demand.

““Blood has no substitute. It can only be obtained from another human,” he said while addressing a review meeting of Blood Bank In-charges at Naharlagun today.

Emphasizing the need for conducting IEC on voluntary blood donation, Dr. Budh urged them to ensure that collected bloods are safe for transfusion.

and to take up aggressive IEC on voluntary Blood Donation and  to conduct blood donation camps periodically as per as demand  in their locality.

However, not all blood are safe, therefore respective blood bank officers have a critical responsibility to deliver safe blood.  

He also highlighted the target of blood donation camps for AAP-2012 and explained the logistic support provided by National AIDS Control Progarmme for effective functioning of blood transfusion services in the state.

Ibom Ete, Drugs Inspector, briefed about the licensing and renewal of blood banks which is mandatory for all the blood banks.

Blood Bank Officers from districts highlighted their problems and assured to make blood banks in their respective areas functional by taking up corrective measures.

 

AdiSUI conducts social service

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Adi Students’ Union, Itanagar conducted tree plantation cum social service at Dera Natung Government College and Rajiv Gandhi Polytechnic College Itanagar today.

On the occasion, AdiSU speaker Obang Paro appealed to the people of the state to save and promote the greenery of the state.

Organizing chairman Nang Gao appreciated the department of Forest for supplying  saplings.

Amongst other Trade and Commerce Director Tokong Pertin, AdiSU president Sokun Siboh, Advisor Tapu Mibang, DNGCSU General Secretary Gora Rikam and his team and Principal of the DNGC College also took part in the tree plantation and social service programme.

BJP gets new president in Upper Subansiri

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Tapa Dadi has been elected as Upper Subansiri district Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president in its party election held at Daporijo on Sept 29 last.  The newly elected president has been asked to appoint his office bearers and various Morcha presidents in his district.

 

Tirap DC visits Kaimai

KHONSA, Oct 11: “Do not leave anything to the government as every villager is a part of it,” Tirap deputy commissioner Dr. Sachin Shinde told the villagers of Kaimai. He was speaking to the villagers during his maiden visit to Kaimai yesterday.

The deputy commissioner said that establishment of any government agency in a particular place act as a catalyst and further augments it development. He was referring to the establishment of the Company HQ of CRPF at Kaimai village.

He sanctioned a Rain Water Harvesting System of 50000 litres for village Middle School and the CRPF camp. During his interaction with the Self Help Groups of the village, Shinde  assured them of every possible help and urged them to form a Federation of the SHG for better development .

The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by the Superintendent of Police and the Commandant of 36Bn CRPF Khonsa. Both of them were all praised for the villagers for the cooperation they are giving for the establishment of the CRPF Coy HQ. They also sought the help of the villagers in curving the UG problem.

Earlier, K Lowang, Chief of Kaimai, apprised the DC of the problems faced by the villagers. He said that the villagers have been rendering help free of cost to the CRPF company wherever required and would continue to do so as their presence in the village have been of immense help. DIPRO

May good sense prevail in education department

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily I would like to question the policy of education department of Arunachal Pradesh. The matter is regarding the concerns of the students, parents and the people of the entire Mariyang block. The government Higher Secondary School Mariyang has been suffering from shortage of qualified teacher since its inception. The demand of Panchayat leaders, elected representatives and the officials of the education department both at Mariyang and Yingkiong for posting more teachers to its sanction strength have never been fulfilled due to unwillingness of teachers to serve in remote places like Mariyang.

Almost every day we come across through the media about the announcement of various reform policies by the present  Minister Education. I have the appreciation for all the initiatives of reforms initiated by Minister Education and Parliamentary Secretary Education.

Very recently Panchayat leaders of Mariyang, AdiSU (Adi Student Union), MASU (Mariyang Student Union) and various social organizations have expressed resentment against transfer of three teachers from Mariyang without any relievers. As a common man of Mariyang I would like to appreciate the policy of transfer and posting of teacher, but what I could not understand is that why the transfer is effected without posting or replacement that also when Mariyang is already suffering from shortage of teacher.          I can only express my wishes through your esteemed daily that good sense may prevail in entire hierarchy of education department, especially to the Parliamentary Secretary education, who happened to be the MLA of 40 Geku-Mariyang Constituency.

Discrimination in distribution of relief

Dear Editor,

Let me share few words through your esteemed daily regarding the recent flash floods and nature’s fury  which badly affected Lohit and Anjaw district. In the recent times like yearly Festivals, this year also the dwellers of Lohit-Anjaw are facing Nature’s extra - Love in the form of heavy rains, which instead of benefitting are stealing sleep from the people. People living in Anjaw they themselves are not sure when they will get food to eat. Recently even the kids from VKV Amliang had to FOOT-MARCH back to Tezu as there are no food in the school. And I'm very much amazed that they had walked all the way 100 kms to reach Tezu. May be the middle class and high class people are fleeing on Helicopter, but what about the poor ones? How will they flee from this? And this is not a new story for Anjaw dwellers. Every year during monsoon they go through same experience. It has almost become like an annual festival. Leaving poor citizen haplessly, many big bosses of the district are busy shopping and participating in events around the states.

During the recent flash floods at Lohit on 18th September, I got stuck in Tezu and faced tough situation with my family. We had to stay alert day and night in fear that our house may get washed away by the drain turned into river. No light, Rs 30/per Kg rice costing Rs 60, Rs 500 for 1 Kg of Chilies, Egg costing 10 Rs per piece, no mobile network, Rs 80 per Kg for Onions etc etc. And guess what few shopkeepers taking the advantage of the flood. On the second day we heard that few people have come to the colony on the other side of the road and that they have taken record of the damages caused and that they are enquiring people so that they can be appropriately given compensations. But no one came to our colony. Again, next day we heard that people even those whose houses are not near the Rivulet were getting compensations including 50Kg rice, Dals, Potatoes, money and other relief items. Even after week passed no one came to collect record. So, we are just confused. On the one hand people who are even 10-20 meters away from the highest level of water are enjoying the relief but why were we missed?

So I appeal the state government and everyone to give heed to the problems faced by the people of the neglected district. Arunachalees aren't dwelling only around capital region, there are many other districts too.

Save our ancestral land

Dear Editor,

Through the columns of your daily, I would like to remind our chief minister and MLAs of state that the foothill areas of East and West Siang districts are being rapidly encroached by our giant neighbour Assam. In most of the border foothill areas the Rangia-Murkongselek railway line used to be the Mac-Mohan line between the two states. However with the conversion of the said railway line from metre gauge to broad gauge, massive infrastructure development and population explosion is taking place in Assam. Due to this our tiny population is being constantly pushed towards the hills. Therefore we are losing our agricultural and ancestral lands. We cannot fight with them as we are very few in numbers and we don't have security forces or officials to protect our land. Before our population gets extinct from foothill area, I request chief minister to take immediate counter-measures to save our people and lands. I request the CM to consider the creation of Lower Siang district in the foothills for our peace and security.

Undernourished people in South Asia

According to this year's FAO report, based on data collected between 2010 and 2012, some 868 million people are estimated to have been undernourished. This represents 12.5 percent of the global population, or one in eight people. The vast majority of these – 852 million, – live in developing countries, where the prevalence of undernourishment is now estimated at 14.9 percent of the population the report, titled 'The State of Food Insecurity in the World'   says.

Despite significant improvements this year to the FAO methodology for estimating undernourishment, further improvements and better data are needed to capture the effects of food price and other economic shocks.

The report has based its calculations on improved methods of data collection and processing. In doing so, it has observed that the undernourishment estimates have progressed and efforts to reduce hunger have been more pronounced since 1990 than previously believed. The revised results imply that the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) target of halving the prevalence of undernourishment in the developing world by 2015 is within reach, if appropriate actions are taken to reverse the slowdown since 2007–08.

This year’s report also discusses the role of economic growth in reducing undernourishment. Arguing that even though economic growth is necessary, it not sufficient to accelerate reduction of hunger and malnutrition, the report says that "to accelerate hunger reduction, economic growth needs to be accompanied by purposeful and decisive public action. Public policies and programmes must create a conducive environment for pro-poor long-term economic growth."

While social protection helps improve nutrition for young children – an investment that will pay off in the future with better educated, stronger and healthier adults – it also helps mitigate risk, thus promoting technology adoption and economic growth. By designing a well-structured system of social protection to support and complement economic growth, undernourishment and malnutrition can be eliminated as quickly as possible, says the report.
